The Burning House Project

I couple of weeks ago my English teacher assigned a project involving 10 things that we would grab from our house if it was on fire.  This is what I chose:

My denim jacket, keys, Converse, glasses, iPhone, camera, wallet, eyelash curler, computer, and car.

Pacific Blue

This nail polish has been all the rage in the beauty community, so when I found it on clearance at Rite Aid I had to get it!  Pacific Blue by Sally Hansen isn't something that I would usually pick out, but it's unexpectedly pretty on the nails.  Bonus: It's super opaque; this is after just one coat!

Rainboots, Flowers, and a Fish

First of all, I have been on the hunt for cheap rainboots for a long time.  So yesterday I stopped by a Goodwill and spotted these cute little things that were exactly what I've been looking for.  Usually I cringe whenever I see people buying shoes at a thrift store but these look like they've never been worn and I figured I'd being wearing socks whenever I wear them.  Plus they were only $8! It isn't even close to being a rainy day today, but who cares?  Hey Danes, who does that remind you of?

Lately I've been on a serious flower kick.  I don't know what it is about them; I just love them!

                                                      I also got a fish!

How to Make Lipstick Last

When it comes to lipstick I am very picky.  It has to be bright, pigmented, non drying, and be able to last at least 6ish hours.  There are tons of tricks to make lipstick last for hours and hours.
           1.  Prime:  About 30 minutes before applying lipstick put on a lip balm.  When you're ready to put on the first swipe, wipe all the excess lip balm off.
           2. Base:  Urban Decay sells a lipstick primer, but I find that very unnecessary.  All you need is a lip liner.  They come in many different forms, but my favorite is pencil. You have two options: line your lips or line and fill in your lips.  I personally like to line and fill in.  This makes it so that the lipstick color doesn't bleed past the lips throughout the day.

As you can see, NYX is my favorite brand.

           3. Apply:  Some people like to use a lip brush to apply lipstick.  Using a brush lets you be more precise and it also presses the color into your lips acting as a stain.  Most of the time I just go straight from the tube, but only because I've become confident that I won't make any mistakes.

The brush on the left is from a craft store, and the brush on the right is a Sigma SS209.

          4. Repeat:  After applying the first layer, grab a tissue, fold it in half, and press your lips together.  Add another layer of lipstick and repeat the tissue trick.  Do this as many times as you want; the more layers the long it will last.

          5. Quick tip:  Runway and editorial makeup artists like to top the last layer of lipstick with some powder.  This can bring lips to a whole new level.  Putting a shimmery color on the center of the bottom lip creates the illusion of fuller lips.  Putting a matte blush all over the lips creates a really cool look that I really like.  Some people like to make their lips look "juicy" with lip gloss. But I happen to hate lip gloss so to me the matte look is ultra cool.  Also, the powder put on lips is supposed to absorb all the moisture.  This can make people not like it because it makes your lips feel very dry.
          6.  Clean up:  If any color goes outside of the lines, don't use your fingers or a tissue.  Instead, use a Q-tip.  Also, some people like to use concealer around the mouth to make the lines look sharp and defined.

When wearing a bright lip color be sure and keep the rest of your makeup natural or wear black eyeliner.

Target Haul

This evening I was bored, so naturally I went to Target to wander around.  I knew that I had to get some clear mascara, I was thinking about get the Neutrogena Wave, and I just impulsed bought some beautiful lipstick.
The clear mascara/brow gel combo by ELF is a steal at $1 per tube.  I like to use this after I apply my regular mascara so that it doesn't transfer down to my lower lids.  Therefore reducing the chance of getting the raccoon look.

I've thought about getting the Clarisonic for awhile now, but it's $110 and could make my rosacea way worse.  So I opted for the Neutrogena Wave which isn't as harsh, and only $15.  The only thing I'm really hoping for it to do is remove excess makeup and avoid clogged pores.

I'm a HUGE fan of these Covergirl Lipperfection lipsticks.  If applied right, they last all day!  They also come in a wide range of shades; but for some reason I always gravitate towards the crazy colors that normal people stay away from.  Maybe tomorrow I'll make a post on how to make lipstick last the whole day!

PS! I made a photography lightbox so that I can take more professional pictures of beauty products.  So expect a lot more beauty related posts!

Doubled Up

                                                           I'm obsessed.

Chopped

Last week I got my hair chopped.  I like my hair relatively short so I couldn't stand it when I was trying to grow it out.  But now looking back at the "before" picture I wish I hadn't cut it so short... Oh well! It's a good thing my hair's been growing really fast lately!
